Betsy Crapps (pictured at left) has combined the fun of prom with charity—forming Mom Prom six years ago. Started in her hometown of Canton, Michigan Crapps encourages moms to pull out their old prom dresses and gather for a night of dancing, drinking and reminiscing giving the proceeds of the night to cancer research and other charitable groups. Since the first Mom Prom held in the gym at Crapps’ church, Mom Proms with a similar purpose have sprouted up around the country in Washington State, New York and New Hampshire.
