Empowering Myself

Posted on January 04, 2011

How many times have you heard the line "it goes so fast...enjoy it" in reference to how fast our kids grow? Countless. But the problem is we're so busy with everything that we don't even have time to stop, take this sad truth to heart and adhere to it.  One day, we hope, everything will slow down for two seconds while we catch up on all the bills, home projects, movies we've missed, friends we've neglected....the list is endless. But we know it's not going to slow down. Bummer. However, what we do know as moms is how to make it work...whatever "it" is. As a "President Mommy" I strive to empower myself to make things work. Strive is underscored!

Here's what I do to enjoy the moments along the way.  I live on my Blackberry because it's key to keeping up with all things personal and professional.  So when my oldest was a toddler, I decided to create an email account for him. It allows me to quickly email him pictures and funny stories to capture some of his greatest (and the not so great 2 year old tantrums) moments. I gave up on the idea of waiting for things to slow down so I could assemble his baby memory book. Now, I simply grab my Blackberry as soon as he says something funny, asks a profound question or performs in a school recital. I attach pictures and videos when I have them and voila...I've captured the moment! Sometimes I copy the grandparents and godparents too so that they can share in the moments (and I can kill another bird with the same stone...yay!). When he's older he can read and enjoy these emails and presumably at that point "it" will have slowed down enough that I can sit down (imagine that!) with him and we can read the emails and laugh together. After all, what good is any president who hasn't memorialized and archived all of her important moments? So here's to all of us President Mommies...cheers to making "it" work!
