Dreams really do come true!

Posted on September 19, 2010

How many of you watched Oprah the other day when she was making people’s biggest dreams come true?  I was glued to the TV every second.

When Oprah and Nate Berkus awarded the “Mom Warrior” a new house, I nearly fell off my couch.  I was so happy for this family who had been through so much.  And I was equally as thrilled for the single mom who got the trip to Italy, a year off from her 3 jobs, and her children’s college loans paid.

But the segment that really resonated with me was the one with the women of the Centerville Pie Company.  Here were two small business owners with a dream, making less than 50 pies a week until a bold move by one of them started a domino effect like none other.  This courageous woman brought one of her pies to Oprah’s hotel while she was visiting the area for Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s funeral.  And while the immediate aftermath of that proved quite interesting, nothing prepared them for what was next.

On the Oprah show, in front of millions, Oprah announced that Harry and David would now be offering their pies through their catalog and on their website!  When Oprah said this, I jumped off my couch, screamed like a girl, and clapped my hands like a toddler who had just gotten her first piece of candy!  I was so overjoyed, even my children were wondering what was going on.

I told them that these women had their ultimate dream come true.  That Oprah had made it possible for their small business to go international and that they would be more successful than they ever imagined.

My daughter asked me why I was crying and I told her that it was because I was so happy for these women.  I also told her that these women and I shared a similar dream and that is to have your small business, which you put your heart and soul into, recognized like these women did.  My daughter then responded with, “Well, just go on Oprah and she can make it happen.”  Truer words could not have been uttered.

So Oprah, this single mompreneur from Connecticut would love to have her son’s braces paid off, her mortgage paid off so she can stop coloring her hair every week, and oh, if it’s not too much trouble, her baby gift business picked up by say, oh, I don’t know…Babies ‘R Us?

Thanks!
