Children: Blue Ivy, 1

Arguably the hardest working mom in show biz, Queen Bey earns a spot on our list for her long list of accomplishments in the music industry, undeniable drive and relentless talent. After giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy last year (Dad is music mogul Jay-Z), this Grammy-winning superstar sang at our President’s second inauguration, performed a dazzling half-time show at the Super Bowl, released a self-produced HBO documentary, dropped a new album, Mrs. Carter (Jay-Z’s real name is Sean Carter), and embarked on a world tour underscored by a $50 million Pepsi endorsement deal—and the year isn’t even half over!

I have to say I'm rather

I have to say I'm rather disappointed with these Top 10 Powerful Moms. Absolutely, they are powerful. But their power seems to be only recognized in the working aspect of their lives. I see very little integration of their family life within the context of work. And how much assistance do they receive on the domestic front to enable them to exert their power at their professions? I think we need to change the conversation about what powerful means, in the context of motherhood (or parenthood, all things being equal). I would like to see the root of "power" embrace the notion that family and work are not mutually exclusive. That parents cannot do it all - alone. Powerful moms, for me, are those that make the smartest choices in consideration of all the facets in their lives.
