Former yeoman for the U.S. Navy and, now, mother of four, Lori Holub sees her continuing education as a way to adjust to a changing world, changing circumstances and her own changing needs. She sites the recession as the impetus for enrolling at Capella University to complete her Bachelors degree. She had been working as an insurance professional while raising 4 children up until that time, but the crisis in the economy had adversely effected her client base – with the budget belts tightening all around, buying life insurance was less of a priority. Lori made the hard decision to close her practice and to return to school.
Now, without hesitation, Lori says her decision was the best one she could have made. She had long wanted to return to school, but her desire had taken a backseat to family and career considerations after she left the Navy. Now happily married to her second husband and with four children in school, she welcomes the challenges that her Capella classes present to her. Lori currently works in the human resource department of a logistics firm while being a mother and an avid learner. Lori says juggling Capella homework, housework and her children’s extra-curricular activities taught her “energy” management, and she’s better for it. “I have lived a wonderful life,” she says, “full of surprises and exuberance!”
