Your son, Edward Duke, was born last August. How’s it going?
Motherhood is everything I’ve dreamed of and more. My husband [entrepreneur Bill Rancic] and I can’t get enough of Duke. Being parents has changed both of us for the better and has made our love for each other stronger than ever.
What new-mom surprises have you experienced?
Well, there were a few messy diaper changes I wasn’t expecting! But I wasn’t expecting to handle everything that parenthood offers so smoothly. even though everyone says it—and you go into parenthood thinking you know it—I wish someone had really told me, “Enjoy sleeping while you still can!” It was a big change, but it tapped into this maternal side of me that i’ve never seen. I am truly loving every moment!
Baby products are certainly plentiful. Got any faves?
I never knew how many fun things I had to choose from when it came to parenting! From recommendations and trial and error, I’ve found I have to use Huggies diapers. I tested many diapers until I found the right one, and I gotta say Huggies keep Duke nice and dry and also seem to be the most comfortable on his delicate skin.
Did you find it difficult to return to work after welcoming your child?
It’s always hard leaving Duke in the mornings, but I adore my job and my work. To make the days easier, I remind myself why I go to work every day. And as Duke gets older, I know I’m setting a good example for him. I’ve found that always making time for my family, no matter what’s going on at work, helps me maintain a healthy balance. And at the end of the day, Bill has been the best partner in crime. We help each other stay as balanced as possible.
Tell us about your upcoming summer projects.
Season six of our reality show, Giuliana & Bill, is airing this summer on Style Network and will show us adjusting to life as new parents. I'm also super excited to appear several times on HSN for my clothing line, G by Giuliana Rancic. It’s bright and bold!
Giuliana On New-Parent Romance
- Share the love. In the early days of mommyhood, you need to tell your husband you love him as much as you say it to your baby.
- Be a team. Remind each other that you’re a team and will stick together to work out any problems or rough patches.
- Keep kissing. When you have a baby, you end up kissing the baby dozens of times a day and barely smooch your spouse. Kiss your hubby to let him know you still adore him.
- Show your appreciation. Assure your partner he’s your first love and always will be. He will appreciate knowing he’s still your No. 1.
