If you’re staying at a resort or hotel, check to see if they have a babysitting service. Make sure to verify how they run background checks on the babysitters, and ask if you can interview them and call their references before you leave them with your children. 

And don't be afraid to use your out-of-network resources. If you have friends in the area, tap them for leads on where you can find a reliable, trustworthy sitter.
