Concurrent Workshops
A. Our Leadership Challenge: How to Achieve Resilience, Connection and Fulfillment in Our Lives
The choices we make in our careers set us on a path. We choose goals, enjoy successes and address challenges. Yet, it's easy to drift onto autopilot: to unconsciously develop habits of mind and action, make tradeoffs, cease to track what works or doesn't. Unsurprisingly, despite our successes, our lives may not as be as satisfying or connected as we would like. Often, we've been operating in default mode. This workshop provides tools for participants to take stock of where they are, to create or restore vital aspects of their lives that energize, connect and lead to healthier, less stressful, more fulfilling lives. In this breakout session we will focus on how high-achieving women at each stage of their careers can identify, prioritize and protect goals with new habits that promote collateral benefit rather than damage.
Facilitator:
Dory Hollander, Ph.D. / Founder and President / WiseWorkplaces and New Options, Inc.
Thought Leader:
Janice C. Haith / Deputy, Communications, Networks & CIO Division / US Navy
B. Presentations That Matter: Effective Presentation Skills that Influence Outcomes and Results
Leadership at the highest levels require the ability to present complex data succinctly and simply, challenge thinking and pre-conceived perceptions and influence results. This session will focus on:
- Slide deck development skills that deliver tough messages in an engaging and simple way
- Presentation skills that capture the attention and imagination of everyone, including dissenters
- Techniques that meet the needs of the "show me the details" audience
Facilitator:
Debbie L. James / Executive Vice President, Communications & Government Affairs / SAIC
Thought Leader:
Karen Lanning / Supervisory Physical Scientist / FBI Laboratory
C. Discover Ways to Build Futures for Multicultural/Multigenerational Leaders Now!
Building a diverse leadership pipeline to attract and retain high-potential women at all levels of the organization is now critical. Still, the resistance inherent in the status quo and the difficulties of inventing new forms or organization make this difficult. Experienced facilitators will tackle misperceptions and provide strategies to help multicultural/multigenerational women build careers at all levels and areas of the intelligence community including mission and operations, joint duty and field experience. The discussion will include hot topics such as flexibility, global issues and collaborative leadership.
Facilitator:
Kristine Korva / Senior Manager / Deloitte Consulting LLP
Thought Leaders:
Sandi Aguirre / Department Head / The Mitre Corporation
Sharon A. Houy / Chief of Staff / Defense Intelligence Agency

The group considers the impact that work and relationships (both personal and professional) have on their effort and outcomes.
