It began in the late 1980s with a brilliant idea coupled with a little bit of luck and a whole lot of laughter.  After years of giving money to different charities, actor and philanthropist Paul Newman decided to create one of his own – a whimsical camp for children with cancer. He envisioned the camps as places where children could escape the fear, pain and isolation of their conditions and in his words, ‘kick back, relax and raise a little hell.’

From that first camp in Connecticut, his idea has flourished and today the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps serves a global family of camps for children with serious medical conditions including fourteen camps in seven countries, six new camps and programs in various stages of development, and seven Global Partnership Initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Camp is all about fun, adventure and making friends. Creative staff members and volunteers along with our medical professionals ensure that every child experiences success and gains confidence to try new and exciting things in a supportive environment.  Our universally accessible camps offer activities such as adaptive equestrian programs, wheelchair accessible tree houses, zero-entry pools and adaptable high and low ropes courses.  All of this is done free of charge.

To date, more than 200,000 children and families affected by devastating illnesses have had a Hole in the Wall Camp experience.

Get Involved!  Join us today and share our passion for improving the lives of children and families affected by serious illnesses. Volunteer, fundraise, advocate or come to an event. The ways to help are endless.
