Crazy, Stupid, Love is out, and you’re playing Sarah Palin in a new HBO film. You’re so busy! Why hook up with Bounty’s Make a Clean Difference program and clean up a school?
As a parent [of Caleb, 13, and Liv, 9], I really care about schools. It’s unfortunate that so much stuff falls into the teachers’ basket. They can’t do it all. So I want to help and get other parents to help, too.
What makes a great school?
That’s a big question. So much happens in kids’ development, not just academically but also socially. So it’s important for schools to acknowledge that. I always ask what’s going on socially—is everybody comfortable? A school that really pays attention to who a child is, how he’s fitting in, who he is as a human being, that’s so important, as is real inclusiveness.
As a working mom, what do you want your kids to know about you?
I don’t want them to know a lot, but I do want them to know, for their sake, that i really enjoy what Ido, that I care about it, I look forward to doing it, and that i’ve chosen it because it’s a way of spending my life that is valuable. obviously, most of us have to grow up and make a living, so i want them to do something they enjoy if possible. Working is a fact, but it doesn’t have to be a hardship. It can be something you love, which is important to how you spend your life, not just how you make your money.
What keeps you up at night? The kids? Work?
I’m so fortunate with my kids, so I don’t actually worry about them, except when they’re feeling anxious about something. I do worry if there’s something I feel is outside of my control. I think I most worry about time, that everything goes by so quickly. And that’s hard to watch happen. But it also makes me very determined to enjoy my kids where they are right now.
You live a high-profile life in New York City. How do you de-stress?
I do yoga—that really helps me relax.
You’ve won tons of acting awards, played opposite other amazing actors and had lots of love scenes. So who’s the best kisser: Colin Firth, Kevin Bacon or Annette Bening?
Oh, I don’t kiss and tell!

Julianne helps Procter & Gamble’s Bounty brand clean up schools
Earlier this year, Julianne Moore teamed up with Bounty’s Make a Clean Difference campaign and other parent volunteers to spend a day cleaning up PS 63 in New York City. It was part of the annual We Love Our School Week, a national cleaning effort led by Bounty to provide much-needed cleaning supplies to classrooms around the country.
In a recent survey, 71 percent of U.S. teachers reported bringing cleaning and learning supplies from home, spending an average of $462 each year for their classrooms out of their own pocket. In a further attempt to ease their load, Bounty and School Family Media, an organization focused on filling unmet school needs through parent-teacher partnerships, have set up TeacherWishList.com. Here, teachers can easily create and publish their own wish lists, and parents can search for their child’s teacher lists in one or two clicks and help out. Check it out, and participate.
