Teachers Wielding Kryptonite - Bullies at the Chalkboard

You’re saving the world by powerfully influencing your kids to become awesome adults. You’re walking your talk about integrity, respect, accountability, and personal leadership. You’re making good on all your parenting promises. It’s awesome and you’re powerful, yet your power may be weakened by the other adults who also influence your child:  clergy, athletic coaches, other parents, and teachers. What happens to your power when one of them wields kryptonite?

No Excuses! Try the Early Morning Workout

Posted on March 09, 2013

The number one, biggest reason I hear from moms as the reason for not fitting in a workout is, “I don’t have time.”  I hear this from moms who are full time corporate employees, part time consultants and those who stay home with little ones not yet in school.  All of these women insert their day job into the round-the-clock job of being mom.  So between the morning madness of lunch prep, sock finding, driving to school and the evening madness of homework, dinner prep, bath time and bedtime, who can find time to fit in a 30 minute, let alone 60 minute, workout?  Doing so

Boost Your Child's Memory Recall

Posted on March 08, 2013

I’ve been reading this book called Promoting Executive Function in the Classroom by Lynn Meltzer. It’s not a fun read, but it does have some pretty good tips. Especially on how to boost your child’s memory recall. As a parent of three elementary age kids, I’m always open to trying new things to make studying easier and faster. And with an end result of A and B grades.

Mindful March

I have a tendency to try to do a million things at once. Some of this comes from being a working mom; there are simply not enough hours in the day to afford the luxury of doing one thing at a time, so like many other women, I multitask. Waiting for dinner to finish cooking? Throw in a load of laundry. Waiting on the kids to get ready for school? Better grade a few papers. Fifteen minutes to kill in the car? A great time to quiz them over their math facts and spelling words.

Learning to Quit

I'm sure at some point you've been asked, "What's your biggest regret?" If you're like 90% of people I know, you respond with the typical, "I have no regrets/everything happens for a reason/every mistake has made me who I am today." Holy bullshit.

I tweeted yesterday morning about being blessed to be able to work from home. Then, within minutes, I read that Marissa Mayer, through her HR Director, issued a memo revoking the work from home policy at Yahoo. Part of the policy goes on to state ...

"That is why it is critical that we are all present in our offices. Some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and cafeteria discussions, meeting new people, and impromptu team meetings."

Is it or Isn't it...that is the question.

So, my son is a little hyper. Errr, actually, that is a little white lie - he is extremely hyper, easily distracted, gets bored quickly, talks non-stop, is extremely impatient and he DOES NOT LISTEN! I always thought he had one of those ADD/ADHD conditions- But I was always told that boys and girls are different and that all those symptoms I listed above were common in boys. BS. My son, drives me crazy, and apparently he drives the teachers and administrators at his school crazy as well. And his soccer coaches...you get the picture.

Sweet or Sour? The Scoop on Sugar Substitutes

Posted on February 15, 2013

I often say that sugar substitutes, aka artificial sweeteners, can evoke a similar emotion among us as politics often does. Many of us embrace a candidate wholeheartedly, others cautiously dip in a toe or two, while there’s another group of us who are ardently against them. That’s okay. We have the right to our own opinions and choices. Given that, many of us consume sugar substitutes in beverages and in thousands of other products. Some of you may be surprised to know that sugar substitutes also can be found in some toothpastes, mouthwashes, cough drops and even some medicines.

Top Secrets to Stepping into your Greatness

The phrase ‘Your Greatness’ can be called different things.  It could be ‘Your Destiny’, ‘Your Purpose’, or even ‘Your Calling’.  What each of these phrases speak to is ‘what are you on this planet for?’ The thought can be overwhelming!  Perhaps immediately followed by ‘I haven’t a clue!’

You Make Me Blush

Okay, mamas!  Let’s talk about blush!  It’s nice to put a little color in your cheeks (especially if you’re like most mamas, and don’t get much sleep!) and it’s a great way to do a little something for yourself to look and feel good, without it taking a lot of time!  Pair it with a little lip gloss and voila!  You’ll look great in a short amount of time.  Here are some
