Turbo Turkey Burgers

In the downtown core where I work, the grocery stores are minimal to be kind. You can purchase milk, eggs, flour and processed cheese, that’s about it. On weekends we bring the kids grocery shopping at larger chains to take advantage of increased selections of produce. Keeping Ryan and Chloe in the grocery cart continues to be a challenge, we tend to bribe them with snacks in order to keep them sedentary and reasonably quiet. Today, ground turkey looks inticing. Chloe enjoys eating meat, any meat, especially burgers, the spicier the better.

Outstanding Oven Fries

Outstanding Oven Fries

I’ve been searching for the perfect recipe for oven fries for a long time. Usually, the fries don’t crisp up. They are so soggy that they need to be drowned in ketchup to become palatable. These oven fries are crispy, crunchy, salty, spicy and delicious. I could eat cumin and pepper with a spoon, the flavours are so vibrant. If they don’t appeal to you, feel free to leave them out. These manly wedges work well with steak. Tonight we had them with salmon smoked from the Big Green Egg. The kids liked them too, no red sauce necessary.

Super Fast S'mores Bars

Imagine a camp fire, without the camp fire. These bars taste like a combination of caramel and chocolate, with a chewy marshmallow crunch. They are beyond addictive so beware. You need 5 minutes to prepare the bars, and another 5 to wash the pot. Thank you, Betty.

Daily adventure of tag teaming childcare

Daily adventure of tag teaming childcare

It's summer, my mother-in-law is gone - on vacation, my kids are on summer vaction, and I'm working from home. I'm tag teaming childcare with my husband - which in all honesty means I'm overseeing most of the childcare. It's a bit chaotic and I'm leaning into the ups and downs of the daily adventures.

I've had to slow down and face the reality - I can't get evertything done - the way I want it done. I was bumming a few days ago, but now I'm seeing the opportunity in all of this.

A Summer Escape

Sometimes the best way to escape life’s everyday stresses is to get away and unwind with your BFF, mother, daughter, sister or cousin.

The first thing I see when I wake in the morning and the last thing I see when I fall asleep at night is my wall of GRLPWR – my photos of my mom, myself, my daughter, and my grandmother (Nana).  There’s a spot open for my mother-in-law, because she definitely has GRLPWR, too.  The place of distinction, however, goes to Nana.

We all know that Father's day is coming up soon. I wanted to share a poem I wrote to honor mine. It's called "Talking on the Phone" You can find it at  http://voices.yahoo.com/talking-phone-11362312.html  I hope you all enjoy it. He was a great man who was going through his own personal pains. I miss him and I know he's in a better place!
