Bully Isn't the Bad Guy

Bully Isn't the Bad Guy

With all the attention on prevention and punishment we’ve lost sight of the empowerment opportunities.  Neither the bully nor the bullied operate from a position of power and choice; each feels trapped in a game of survival

Bully survival: Stay on top of the food chain.

Bullied survival:  Escape the bottom of the food chain.

He's out of college, jobless -- I'm bragging about him anyway

Posted on July 06, 2012

My son just graduated from a prestigious East Coast university – a double major with honors. Here's the part where I am supposed to tell you about his lucrative new job with Company X, about the adorable young woman he met at college to whom he might someday be engaged, and about the future of his that is so bright – yes, he's gonna have to wear shades.

Running Through Sixty-Seven

In 1967 my father began his career as a math teacher and a running and baseball coach in the city of New Britain, Connecticut.  As a graduation present from Bates College, my dad received a loan from his father for his cream-colored, Camaro Convertible, which sported a black racing stripe. The price of the car was nearly 75% of  his salary from the ’67-’68 school year, so this purchase was a luxury in its day.

Asking for help + Working Mother = Slacker?

I was thrilled to be featured on Life By Me, last week. I really love talking about multigenerational living as a way to create the life I want as a working mother.

Multigenerational living has allowed me to create a life that lives up to my personal expectations, allows me to thrive, and provides room for me to do life the way that fulfills me.

Another Day, Another Dollar - The Value Of Motherhood? by Joy Rose

One never knows where inspiration is going to come from and I have not been very inspired these last few weeks.

While making breakfast this morning, a line from a song on the radio popped out at me. "Another day, another dollar," the singer harmonized. The full lyrics of the song slipped away, but the gist was, that we all have a higher calling than just the dollars we bring home.

Tell Your Kids to Get Off the Couch

Posted on June 27, 2012

If you are trying to keep your teenage children away from the television set during summertime, you’re not alone.  Believe it or not, some stars of popular Disney T.V. shows are hoping to get them off the couch as well.  Last Tuesday Disney launched Friends for Change Ambassadors, a program where young Disney channel stars will volunteer and encourage kids to take action of their own.

Stop Telling Me What I Can't Have! - The Pink Suite

I wish people would stop telling women what they can and can't have...  From the sound of it, Ann-Marie Slaughter did exactly what she wanted, needed or was driven to do, in her story; "Why Women Still Can't Have It All." We live is a world of customization and have been saying for decades one size doesn't fit all.

Multigenerational Living in Hollywood

This morning kicked off with a frenzy of kid activities. I had to chase my 5-year-old around to get him dressed. It was fun, but it was putting me behind schedule because I needed to get my 13-year-old to the orthodontis.

I wanted to check a few email mesages because I'm trying to wrap up some loose ends before vacations starts this Thursday.

Plus, I wanted to catch a bit of Good Morning America because I always walk away with something to write or talk about.

Marvelous Mango Ice Cream

Marvelous Mango Ice Cream

Ice cream always hits the spot on a hot summer day. This five minute mango treat is popular at barbeques, picnics and birthday parties. The consistency remains creamy and smooth over time, no ice cream maker required. The recipe was created by a friend of a friend from India who couldn’t find great mango ice cream (like ‘mango kulfi’ back home) in North America, so she created it. Ryan asks for this everyday after dinner – at least it’s fruit and calcium. Chloe enjoys eating a scoop out of a small espresso cup, with a mini spoon.
