I majored in Advertising/Journalism in college. Part of the requirement was to complete a 6 week internship. Thinking I wanted to write fashion advertising, I applied to my favorite San Francisco apparel store and was thrilled to get the "job". But not for long. The ad department, 100% female, seemed to be running on estrogen and tears, not hard work or common sense. After that I decided not to work in fashion or in any primarily female environment.

I've always been an early riser - that is, until I had kids. I remember as a teenager, I'd get up WAY before the crack of dawn to go for a run. I lived on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and sometimes I'd run all the way to mid-town, which is about 50 blocks each way. It was exhilarating!
