Peanuts, Cracker Jacks... And A Whole Lot More!

Posted on June 03, 2013

"Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd, buy me some… Twinkies split down the middle, stuffed with a hot dog, and topped off with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles with a cherry on top… It may be an edible heart attack, but I don't care if I never get back…"

Ok, so the Diet Coke thing was a little too hard to give up in one go. My schedule has not my own right now. In fact, for the first time last week, the hubby and I hired a babysitter to help get the kids to school one morning because I was traveling for work and he had to be at work by 8 a.m. It only took us nine years before we couldn’t deal with a morning drop off by ourselves! Of course, now the kids are asking if they can have a babysitter every morning, but that’s another story.

Last week I wrote about giving up Diet Coke as my next step to health. It had become my crutch in lieu of giving up my beloved Starbucks chai latte. (Oh, don’t be jealous Diet Coke, I’ll always love you, too – maybe too much.)

Just like with the chais, the cokes have been hard at first to avoid. I slipped a few times, especially on my many travels. But I’m forging forward and making new choices when it comes to beverages, just like I now do with my food. I’m planning ahead, making better choices and drinking a lot more flavored water.

Hump Day Health Tip of the Week: Exercise, It Does a Body Good

We’ve heard it time and time again, exercise is good for your health.  Trust me, being a former personal trainer and aerobic instructor I know how important it is to get in regular exercise.  But, when I became a mom, I also understood the challenge of trying to fit it in.  And, like most busy mothers, I allowed work, family and life to get in the way of consistent exercise, but not today.

In transition? Join the crowd!

My son is starting middle school in the fall, my good friend’s youngest child leaves for college in August, my colleague’s husband just quit his job to join his wife’s firm, my 46 year-old childhood friend just learned he’s going to be a new father and my professional path (not so much what I do, but “how” I do it) is up for review.

Do you drink milk? If you do, raise your hand high and proud. Unless you have a disease state or condition that prohibits you from doing so, milk is good for us. I highly recommend it.
