What was the impetus for writing your book, Happy Chaos?

I think that there can be a happy balance between following your dreams of having a career and also being a fantastic mom. The balance might not look perfect, and it won’t be, but women can do it all.

Change begins as a seed of an idea. In the case of humanitarian and entrepreneur Devin Hibbard, it was a Ugandan bead. Walking through the streets of the capital city of Kampala, Hibbard came upon a woman rolling strips of paper into beads. She bought some beads and realized that every time she wore them, she would receive compliments. “Women liked the beads, but they loved the story of that woman trying to make a better life for herself and her family,” says Hibbard. “They wanted to buy beads to help support her and the other Ugandan women.”

Becoming a beekeeper wasn't part of Amy Rzepka’s master plan. A stay-at-home mom, she was spending her time volunteering and taking care of her kids, Molly, Rachel and Nathan (then ages 11, 10 and 7). About eight years ago, a family friend asked to put a beehive on their property in Solon, OH, but was unable to dedicate time to care for the bees. Amy's husband, David, took classes and studied up on his new neighbors and their upkeep. “We became beekeepers completely by accident!” says Amy.

Summertime, hot weather, and watermelons are everywhere!  I LOVE watermelons…can’t get enough of them and my kids love’em too!   So what do you do with all the watermelon rinds?  Don’t throw them away!  Give them a savvy second life, or even a third life before adding the rinds to your compost bin or even using the rinds to pickle them.  There are numerous recipes online for how to pickle watermelon rinds.
