Organic Produce and the Dirty Dozen

One of the greatest differences in organic fruits and vegetables lies in how the food is grown, handled and processed. Because organic foods aren’t treated with preservatives and waxes you may find that organic fruits and vegetables spoil more quickly than nonorganic varieties.

Are YOU a Smart Snacker?

A study from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) found that 97% of women snack between meals. The study also found that while so many women are snacking, many of these women are less likely to be overweight if they’re snacking on the right foods and for the right reasons. Snacking can be a great way to stay fueled and focused throughout the day. It can be an effective strategy to prevent mood and energy dips, prevent becoming overly hungry…which can also prevent overeating later on.

A Guilty Pleasure-Nutella

I found out about about this item at the local grocery store. At first,I didn't pay any attention to it because it costs so much and it seemed too healthy. Then I tried the spread for the first time and it was amazing! I don't know if it comes in different flavors, but I can imagine that they would still taste good! I bought a small snack sized container of it and was in heaven eating it with the dipping breadsticks. This one had a milk chocolate taste to it. Move over, peanut butter, there's a new spread in town!  I hear we can bake with this stuff.

Whole Foods in the City of Detroit

It's a great day in the city of Detroit !

Those of you who know me know that my favorite market (by far) is Whole Foods.  I was just there an hour ago.  I came home with produce, peonies, Kombucha and vitamins.  I have been a Whole Foods shopper since my son was born and I lived in Chicago.  Back in 1998 there was one Whole Foods in Chicago.  Today there are six.

Mother's Day 2012

I wasn't expecting much today-but I had gotten a call yesterday from one of my daughters about a surprise she had for me. I normally hate surprises, but I couldn't help but wonder what it was. When I arrived at my mother's house, I got a nice treat. I loved another Mother's Day with my mother and a beautiful masterpiece from my daughter.I know now that my children love me  no matter what.I spent time with the family-it was raining,so there was nothing much else I could do. The fact that I got something made today worthwhile. I had a very happy Mother's Day today!

The End Of Another Season

I have been watching The Biggest Loser forever! I have learned so much from the show about taking better care of myself through diet and exercise. I also learned a lot about taking care of me first instead of obsessing about everyone else's needs. It's not all diet and exercise, it's stress relief as well. It can be a contributing factor in weight related illnesses too. This show has had people coming out of their comfort zones for years! This year I came out of mine by actually training for and finishing a 5k race twice.

Say Cheese!

Say Cheese!

I came to the conclusion yesterday that I am seriously lacking in the humor department. See? I can even talk about humor without using the word “seriously.” If I’m honest with myself, I’ve always been aware that I do not have the same sense of humor as others. But it’s not other people I care about. I know that I do not share my husband’s sense of humor, and that’s not a good thing.
