The Five Words that are Helping Me Heal My Body Image Woes

The Five Words that are Helping Me Heal My Body Image Woes

I think about body image a lot. Like a lot, a lot. I can’t really recall a time that it wasn’t on my mind. I was thin as a kid and then when I hit middle school I put on a lot of weight. From that point on I’ve been thin (not that I believed that at the time, of course) and voluptuous. I’ve spoken at dozens of events about the importance of saying a big f*ck you to the media for their role in creating an unattainable beauty standard that leaves millions of us feeling like crap about ourselves (because we aren’t all a size 0, white, with blond hair and blue eyes).

Signs for a Running Mom: Walk and Read

Last month I celebrated my birthday with my usual long run, during which I expected to pass by some farm animals.  I always manage to either live or work in a town within running distance of farm animals, horses, cows, bison, perhaps some quail.  Luckily, my school is near a large body of water, which to us water sign babies is always a renewing sight. During the second mile, as I closed in upon the banks of the Salmon River, five deer crossed my path, unmolested by truck or tractor.

Signs For a Running Mom

On my thirty-seventh birthday, I celebrate with my usual long run, during which I will undoubtedly pass by some farm animals.  I always manage to either live or work in a town within running distance of farm animals, horses, cows, bison, perhaps some quail.  Luckily, my school is near a large body of water, which to us water sign babies is always a renewing sight. During the second mile, as I close in upon the banks of the Salmon River, five deer cross my path, unmolested by truck or tractor.

Seclusion and Bliss in Orlando! Your own Magical Place near the World!

When one visits Orlando their first thought is not necessarily harmony or seclusion.  Orlando brings thoughts of theme parks, Disney Princesses, and for certain crowds, but how about a spa in Orlando.

Fingernails have stories to tell -- who knew?

Since I was a teen, I had beautiful long nails.  I was genetically blessed with fingernails that were thick and strong.  With a bit of care, they would grow to enviable lengths. I enjoyed painting them every imaginable hue.  I nurtured them and loved hearing the compliments as well as the question, "Are they real?"

The Search For Stylish Work Wear

I’ve always found it difficult to find clothes that look both professional yet also stylish.   In my business as a designer, I can dress more casually and creatively, however I’m always looking for stylish work clothes for those times I have to look extra professional.   I found some cute pieces that are sophisticated and on trend, but are still very professional looking.

Running Moms Have It All

Having a mother who takes endurance sports seriously differs greatly from having a mom who simply exercises to stay in shape. As a child you learn that being a mother is also about being physically strong and mentally tough enough to ignore pain in the pursuit of victory, even if that victory is only to beat one’s own personal best time. Nobody has to tell the child of a runner-mom that women have to be especially strong to survive and flourish in this world.

5 Steps to Feel Better

All of us have New Years resolutions no matter whether or not we choose to publicize them outside our minds.  Many of our resolutions tend to focus on healthy eating and exercise.   The problem becomes what we desire to do and what we actually do may be two different things entirely.

Overindulgence in just about eveything during the holiday season is common and now that it’s January most of us are likely regretting some of our choices.
