I’m taking my commitment to better family health on the road for the next few weeks. My family and I are off to Cleveland to visit my family and take a well-deserved break from school and work.

My plan is to eat healthy, sleep well and spend a lot of time doing nothing with the kids and my husband.

Oh, and there will also be a lot of talk about how this will be the year the Browns will finally make the playoffs, but that’s likely just a Cleveland thing.

I wish you all the best for the next few weeks – and look forward to seeing you back here in July!

The Value of Living the Lessons We Teach

In a few weeks, my oldest child will leave for college.  I remember the tears I shed as he boarded the school bus for kindergarten!

"Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd, buy me some… Twinkies split down the middle, stuffed with a hot dog, and topped off with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles with a cherry on top… It may be an edible heart attack, but I don't care if I never get back…"

It's Official...I'm a Party Pooper

“Honey, get up. Your pants are getting dirty.” Isn’t that what every man wants to hear when he is on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend? Well, that’s the response my husband received when he asked me to marry him 12 years ago. At that moment, all I could think about was how he had on a new pair of khakis and how dirty the ground was and how it was going to be hard to get the dirt out of the knee. I did eventually get to the “yes” part, but I think he had to ask me again before my brain started functioning properly. What can I say? I don’t respond to surprises well.

5 Mom-Essentials Needed When Traveling with Kids. It’s Not What You Think

My family and I just got back from a road trip.  We made the nearly 5-hour trek from Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I was a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding.  Prior to the trip, I gathered all the necessities I needed to keep my 2 ½ year-old and 4-year-old from having a meltdown mid-ride.  DVD Player, check.

Signs You Have a Toddler - Part II

As a continuation of Part I, below is the second half of signs you may have a toddler.  Based on my final score of 100%, we are neck deep in "toddler" at home:

(5) You eat really healthy.  Until the kid is asleep.

When my son is awake, we are incredibly healthy.  We sing songs about trying new and healthy foods.  We smile as we ingest carrots: MMM...this is so good, you'll love it!

Summer Balance - Summers are Now Officially Not LAZY

Recently I was ask by a major publication a few questions about family balance. As most mom's there is really not a time that I sit down and ponder how to balance. It just kind of organically happens.  As I answered the reporters questions, I realized that I had been working on our Summer Balance plan for a few months. Just now our summer schedule was coming together and that is good since summer is almost here!

Here is an exerpt from the interview questions of some ideas my Summer Balance "Plan":
