"There's No Place Like School, There's No Place Like School..."

Mini-me started first grade today. Mini-me looks like me and has so many of my mannerisms…some not so positive. But today, I am thankful that she is my mini-me. My mini-me has been anxious for school to start since…the last day of kindergarten. While she had a glorious summer, every day was another day towards today.

Education Ain't All It's Cracked Up to Be

Did I just say that? This from someone who has 20 years of schooling, which means I’ve spent more of life in school than out of school. Why would I say such a thing?

Because it’s true. I met a professional working mother last week who had not gone to college, and it made me smile. I should have been focusing on what she said, but I found myself thinking about how much I have learned from individuals with little to no formal education.

As a child I was terrified as strangers. Thankfully this is one neurotic, irrational tendency that has not carried over into adulthood! These days I tend to strike up conversations with random strangers in odd places, and this evening was no exception. It drives my husband nuts.

Dogs Deserve Bliss too!

There is breaking news that I as a reporter was able to obtain while under a state of bliss during a facial from an angel named Lauren at The Spa at The Barnsley Gardens Resort. The Barnsley Garden Resort has long been known for customized experiences to make your stay there a personal treat. Their own Fairy Godmother whips up unique treats to create packages so unique to your own personal whims that you thought they were impossible.

Swimming Lessons, Life Saving Me-Time

After watching Savannah Guthrie dunk her hand into a cold tub as part of her interview with the author of Six Weeks to OMG, I was inspired to write about the benefits of swimming, especially swimming in cooler water. Why sit in a cold tub in order to lose weight, when I could actually exercise in cold water and build some gorgeous muscles as well?

How a Gallon of Paint Can Ruin a Marriage

I have read many articles and books as well as listened to countless individuals share that money is the number one cause of most marital arguments and divorce.

I beg to differ. In our house, home improvement projects are the greatest source of contention. And, no, it’s not the cost of the projects that often divided us. It’s the “doing” part that gets us every time.

And it ultimately comes down to different communication and personality styles. You can insert any home improvement project, but it typically sounds a little like this:

Ode to Wendy's

So first thing I want to make clear. I am going to be talking about Wendy’s, but nobody asked me to talk about Wendy’s. This blog post is not sponsored by Wendy’s, and I am not getting anything in return. I just had an unexpectedly great experience at Wendy’s this past weekend and wanted to share it.

Going to Summer Camp and Empowering Girls at the Same Time

This week, I’m going to summer camp!  Remember summer camp?  Crafts, games, songs, snacks, making new friends and being outdoors all… day… long?  (Minus the bugs, sunburns and outhouses of course!)  Forget long hours in the office, looking out the window at the beautiful sunshine – I’m in it!  As a bonus, I get about 18,000 steps on my pedometer a day, just by hanging out at camp.
