Where's the Pleasure in a Guilty Pleasure?

Where's the Pleasure in a Guilty Pleasure?

Guilty pleasure…a little pregnant…amicable divorce…mostly proud…the list of oxymorons is endless.

Take the guilty pleasure. Supposedly, it’s indulging in something we know isn’t a good thing, but we do it anyway because the pleasure of the moment outweighs the guilt we feel about having indulged.

Why I'm Jealous of My Husband

Why I'm Jealous of My Husband

When it comes to my son, I must admit that I am insanely jealous of my husband.

No, not because of the male bonding that will occur throughout the rest of his life. They can have their farts, getting dirty, rough-housing and all that other boy stuff that I'm used to from having 2 male animals in the house already. I know we'll have our own type of mother-son bond that will be special to us.

The New Stay-At-Home Working Parent (SAHWP)

When I became a teenager, my mom realized that she needed to be more involved and accessible for my three sisters and I, so she sold her beauty salon in a town about 20 minutes from our house and opened another right in our home. It gave her the flexibility to be able to be more of a hands-on mom She would schedule her appointments in between our school and extra-curricular activities. And the best part was that she was just a room away if my sisters and I needed her.

Control Freak Delegating...

I just realized it has been since November 16th since my last blog entry.  WOW!  That is a long time.  And so many things have happened in that timeframe.  But I actually have time to sit down today and write something because I am laid up after just having knee surgery.  Plus my husband and I just got into a huge fight.  My perspective of the fight is because he is actually having to all that he does and all that I do.  And that is a LOT.

Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen...

A few years ago, my husband, daughter and I went grocery shopping only to discover upon coming out of the store that our car was dead. Immediately, our thoughts went to “Who can we call to help us?” It was a low moment when the only friends we could think of who would gladly leave whatever Labor Day plans they had to rescue us was an hour away. This couple would have not only left the event they were hosting but would probably pack up some food and bring it with them, but we didn’t want to inconvenience anybody.

My Fail-Safe Trick for Getting in a Home Workout With the Kids in the House

Posted on January 13, 2013

I have found the key to success for actually getting in a home workout with your kids in the house! I've named it "The Mystery Box for Kids." It comes in all shapes and sizes, but the premise is the same - it is a box full of highly-desirable play things and goodies that are otherwise off limits during any other portion of the day. Sound simple? It is, and that's the beauty of it. Let me tell you more.

Stop Bullying My Kid!

Posted on January 06, 2013

“Stop bullying my kid!” are words I never thought I would say. Especially since three (out of four) of my children are only elementary school age. But I have. And with saying those words, I experienced a great sense of worry for my children’s safety.

Do You Leave It Up To The Husband?

Posted on December 29, 2012

I started a web-based household record keeping service four years ago. It's centered around a personal record keeping application called "Matters of Fact (Things the Family Should Know)."

"Knowing" that today's enlightened women share knowledge and responsibility for family finances and record keeping, I concentrated my marketing efforts on them.

Fast forward four years. Big surprise! Most of my users are men.

Do women still leave the household finances and record keeping up to their husbands?

Seeking a Better Balance? Dancing with the Yin & Yang

Throughout my twenties and most of my thirties, I pushed myself hard.

After securing media coverage for a client on the TODAY Show, I barely stopped to breathe before I was pitching their story toNational Geographic or lining up a meeting for them with the French Embassy. When it came to generating results, I was convinced if I just “forced” the outcome, it was bound to happen!

Got Kids? Take 2 Aspirin

The Hardest Job EVER!

Raising a family is, by far, the hardest job I’ve ever had.  I had no idea it would be harder than negotiating multi-million dollar contracts for a commercial airline or starting three different businesses—all were tough but in comparison to raising 2 boys, they were cake-walks.  I thought motherhood would be joyful, but it sucked.  Surely, I was doing something wrong.
