"Literacy Our Common Core" At The Connecticut Reading Association's 61st Annual Conference

“Hi Coach! What’s the work-out for today?” is usually uttered with more force and volume than “What are we going to learn today?”  It’s a hopeful sign if kids do bother to ask what they are going to learn today, but you are bound to get a much better reaction from your athletes who choose to learn and practice their skills, than students who are compelled by our state laws to attend classes during certain hours of the day.

Michael Daly Memorial 5K Run to Cure Diabetes in Old Saybrook, CT

Although the speed of the runners, myself included, was average for a 5K run, nothing about the commitment of the late Michael Daly’s friends and family was anything but exceptional. They honored the life of their brother, son and friend with their walk/run benefit to cure juvenile diabetes.

Why Do I Over Commit?

Why Do I Over Commit?

Confession: Why do I always over commit? When will I learn my
lesson? When I worked in my employer’s NY office I was so guilty of this. My
manager would come to me on a Monday morning with an innocent request, like
“When do you think you can have Project XYZ complete?”(Isn’t he kind? I’ve
worked for some who would not ask but demand

Hartford Marathon Foundation Events, Starring Long-Wearing Lipstick

What woman wants to be the subject of such well meaning comments as, “Oh, you must be so tired,” certainly not most working mothers.  We tend to spend the extra fifteen minutes (sorry there is no such thing as the 5-minute face on five hours of sleep) that it takes to carefully apply coordinated eye, lip and face paints before heading off to work.  Recently, a young gorgeous law st

My son started back to school a week and a half ago and I can see from all the back to school photos on Facebook that he’s not the only one. So, it’s time to start thinking of teachers, schedules and homework again. Amidst all the preparation, you will see boxes in major chain stores like Walmart asking for school supply donations for needy kids.

It’s an easy way to donate. Just pick up a few extra boxes of pencils and reams of paper at the same time you’re shopping for your own children while most of these items are on sale.

Daydreaming Runner Mother

About a year after my daughter was born, I entered a 12 mile road race.  I felt almost no pain during the race, and comfortably ran consistent 8 minute miles or a little faster.

Make Friends Through Running

The Olympics have the power to foster friendships between nations and showcase the world’s greatest athletes. Group runs and races can provide individuals with significant friendships as well as a healthier lifestyle. Recently the Editor of the “Glastonbury Reminder News” asked me and several other busy working parents who attend the free fun runs in town why we participate.

Heart Broken and Healed

Posted on July 30, 2012

My son’s heart was broken a little a few weeks ago in his efforts to try and help others. Our church has been digging wells for communities in Zimbabwe.  The Children’s Ministry decided that it would be good for the children to “own” a well by raising the $6,000 to dig it.  I’m all for getting kids involved in charity.

They were selling water at the Sunday services for a few weeks. Then, they decided to send “wells” home with the students in which they could collect money.
