Ten Memorable Celebrity Dad Quotes

Whether we pay tribute to fathers with an official day once a year, or esteem that special dad all year long, fathers are meant to be honored.  A man who takes care of, spends time with and loves their child is worth celebrating.  It doesn’t matter if they’re a blue collar worker, struggling to make ends meet; or an A-list celebrity, traveling the globe but still keeping family in tow, a dad is a dad at any status level.

Taya Kyle talks about her new found job

Taya Kyle, the wife of the late hero Chris Kyle has a new job.  Taya is dedicated to keeping Chris’ legacy alive, after he was murdered in February of this year.  She had not expected to become a working mom at this time in her life, but circumstances dictated otherwise.  In the midst of working on his seco

I Married Well

I Married Well
For me, being a working mom is existing in a constant state of managed chaos.  Two small son, plus two rescue dogs, plus demanding career, plus - you know - life in general equals a daily nail-biting existence.  And, yes, I am insane because I wouldn't change a thing about it.And I seemingly hold it together pretty well. It's not uncommon for a friend or co-worker to ask "how do you do it all?" To which I always reply, "I married well."  And by well I don't mean I married a trust fund baby or a billionaire.  What I got is so much better than that.  Truly

Hump Day Health Tip: Get Some Sun!

Summer is just around the corner, and with the hot months fast approaching people are stocking up on sunscreen to avoid the harmful effects of over exposure to the sun.

And, because of the negative stigma associated with too much fun in the sun, like skin cancer, cataracts and wrinkles, many people are taking the extreme step and avoiding the sun altogether, opting instead to take in the hot summers days indoors.

Juggling It All?

Juggling It All?

After returning to work from a 12-week maternity leave of which my pay consisted of a little short-term disability and what vacation days I had saved (which meant only using five days during my 40 weeks of pregnancy for sick or vacation), I tried to do it all. Why do we do this to ourselves? I was being cheap, or I had a lot of pride or a lot to prove (you pick), and I thought I could and should be able to put 125% into my roles as mother, wife and employee. Unfortunately, none of these areas can afford 40+% effort and I still needed six hours of sleep per night.

Three Phrases You Should Say to Your Child Everyday

It’s easy to notice the mistakes of those around us, especially our kids.  After all, they’re little people, growing into adults so it’s normal that they’ll have a lot of mishaps along the way.  It’s also normal to hold them accountable so they can grow into responsible adults.  Sadly, on the journey to adulthood, oftentimes our fault-finding outweighs the positive aspects of the relationship with our children.

Meet Two Amazing Running Working Moms (and me)!

Is it self-centered to continue to be ourselves after becoming mothers? If a woman continues to pursue her career and personal interests after giving birth to and/or adopting a child, some people consider her to be selfish. Over the past five years my friends Jammy Davies (pronounced Jay-me) and Shari Deluca have been teaching my students about careers in the law, and the implications that our laws have on daily life.

I Have Thirty-Nine Years; Thank You Holly Fischer
There's nothing like experiencing your birthday and the death of a friend in the same week to make you reexamine, well, you know, everything.  And it's not just any birthday or any friend.  Thirty-nine is like the numeric equivalent of sort of pregnant.  I've been telling friends that I'd like to just skip thirty-nine because eight out of ten times when someone hears I'm thirty-nine they can't help but let me know that "next year is the big 4-0."  Like it had never occurred to me.  Ever.My frie

What I Learned in 8th Grade

My 14 year old just got back from a two day overnight to Disneyland. I’ve lived in Los Angeles for 24 years and only today did I learn about “Grad Night” from my colleagues at work.  It’s a time-honored southern California tradition  – one night in mid-June when Disneyland is open all night for high school seniors, with chaperones, of course. At our school it’s a tradition for the 8th grade graduating class to go on a different night.  Did she miss us? Heck, no.
