Why The Passion Shift is a Gift

If you're like me, becoming a mom is one of the greatest gifts you've experienced in life.

But with it, comes some difficult decisions.

Having been a career woman whose life once centered around my work, I suddenly found myself dreading going into the office.

Secretly, I started fantasizing about quitting my job and reinventing my life AND my career.

That's when my Passion Shift began.

"It's Fun to Stay at the Y.M.C.A!"

Has anyone ever stopped to ask why this song is so popular? My husband was a DJ, and of the hundreds and thousands of songs that exist in the world, this song was one of the most requested songs at weddings, proms, birthdays, etc…

Leadership Lessons from the Tooth Fairy

It's been a teeth-themed week at Casa Casey...

Last weekend, my sister needed all her wisdom teeth taken out and this week Courtney lost both of her front teeth. In between all the blood, tears, and laughs there were some interesting leadership lessons inspired by the tooth fairy.

Why Practice Matters

It looked so far down.  With my hands in the air and me contemplating my first cartwheel in at least two decades, the ground look so far away.  My incredulous family didn’t believe I could do it and suddenly I didn’t think I could either.

For the first time, I felt old.

Fear had taken over and I cursed myself for having a kid so late in life. I kept my arms up as I argued with myself.  I am not ready to feel old yet.  I still have too much daring to do.  They don’t believe you can do it and besides, who cares if I can’t.

Killer Ambition by Marcia Clark

Marcia Clark’s latest book, Killer Ambition, is an informative novel about the duties of a Los Angeles prosecutor, specifically one that works in the Special Trials Unit.  This book intertwines investigative work with courtroom drama.  Clark seems to know something about high profile crimes and trials since people should remember her as the lead prosecutor on the O.J. Simpson case.

Learning To Let Go

Like most parents-to-be, my husband and I never realized the degree to which our lives would change once we started a family. Somethings were obvious enough. We wouldn't have much time to spend with friends, and any time we did spend with them would likely be with the little one in our arms. But other than Saturday nights at home and a huge spike in living expenses, we weren't sure what to expect.

The Key to Conflict Resolution Management

Recently I heard a quote that got right to the heart of conflict and how to resolve it.  I’m paraphrasing, but it was along the lines of “conflict does not rise out of a clash of good and bad, it rises out of a clash of good and good.”  In other words, each conflicting party always believes their position is good and right, putting to rest the notion of “good vs.

Surviving Your Daily Commute

If you are a working mom like me, I'm sure that there are many other “mom” titles that you would love to identify with like:  “the stay-at-home mom”, “the part-time working mom”, or, “the work-at-home mom”.  However, when your daily commute to and from work takes up over 2 hours of your day, you would just settle with “the live 10 minutes from work mom”.&n

Relocating with Kids: 5 Tips for Getting Settled

My last post, 7 Tips for Relocating with Kids, included ways to stay sane and organized during a move. The funny thing is I wrote that in the midst of packing, just before our state to state relocation.

3 Simple but Effective Rules for Asking for What You Want

A couple of weeks ago, my daughter, Zoë, saw someone wearing cut-offs jeans.  I don’t know who or when but they caught her eye.  Later that day, she was talking to her dad and casually asked him about those types of shorts and what they are called.  My husband being the fashion expert told her that they were called cut-offs.
