Teaching Kids to "Friend" and "Un-Friend" in Real Life

Social networking has made it extremely easy to connect…or disconnect…with the people who move through our lives. I recently caught up with an old high school friend on Facebook and realized after a short time that she and I didn’t have much in common anymore. We pursued different life paths and had different philosophies in life. She became a stay-at-home Mom and I pursued a career and became a parent later in life. We both are very happy with our life choices but it sometimes caused a strange dynamic between us – like we feared upsetting the other when our ideas weren’t in sync.

"THAT" MOM!

"THAT" MOM!
When my first set of twins was born seven years ago, I was super-duper organized.   I was That Mom – the one you hate because she sent her birth announcements out before the babies were a week old (with pictures).

Mom's at WORK???

Mom's at WORK???

It can be hard to explain to your 4 year old why mommy is "at work" when technically...she's still in her jammies.

Working from home has VERY clear bennies...I can get the kids up and at 'em every morning...if necessary, I can cook dinner at lunchtime or while on a client call...and there is zero commute (which in DC - means A LOT).

Yet, there are some downsides to being a work from home mom. Sure, the coffee pot is always full and no one eats my Lean Cuisines, but there are negatives there.

Pregnant at 41 Years Old-What to Expect!

Yes, I'm a pregnant working mom with three very active children (8 year old boy and soon to be 7 year old boy and girl twins), and I'm truly loving the experience! Of course with everything in life (not matter what age), not everything is picture perfect.

When is "Doc In A Box" Appropriate - "Take Care Clinics"

We've all waited for a pediatrician appointment, taken time off of work to accommodate a work-in appointment for a sick child, used a vacation day for well child immunizations or sports/camp/school physicals, right?   The convenience and cost effectiveness of the new "Take Care Clinics" or walk in "Doc-In-The-Box" Clinics (as I affectionately call them) are cropping up in pharmacies and retail stores nationwide.  In fact, I needed to use one for my youngest while on vacation in Florida for an otitis media.   No need to ruin the vacation, we just heade

I normally choose not to read newspapers, but I’m at a conference and a copy of USA Today was left outside my door. This article really caught my attention “Is This the Anti-Aging Secret?” The article was talking about how exercise may be the closest thing we have to the fountain of youth.

Mommy Melt Down...

Posted on May 10, 2011

I have often looked at a child that is lying on the floor, kicking, screaming and crying their eyes out and been extremely jealous.  Don't we all have days that we wish we could just throw ourselves on the ground and have a full on melt down, then get up and walk away, ready for some juice?

A Rough Night

Posted on May 08, 2011

Tuesday night was the first night since Sydney was an infant that I really lost it. Tuesdays are Franks school nights so I am a one woman show. I got out of work late by only a few minutes, but sometimes that's enough to throw Sydney and I for a loop.  Syd was crying when I picked her up and was sort of upset the whole ride home which didn't help my already tired mood.

This Is Not a Mother's Day Blog

It’s not that I don’t appreciate the praises, flowers, school tea parties, $8 greeting cards that play music…it’s just that Mother’s Day, more than any other day of the year, reminds me of how fortunate I am to have a supportive husband.  Above all, I credit him with my ability to do it all.

Hey Mom..I Truly Love You!

This Mother's Day, my own mother is in the forefront of my mind.  At the age of 80, she's facing end of life issues with her significant other whom she loves dearly.  I often think and write about love and strength when facing life's realities; today this is a little more real when I think about my Mom.
