I just returned to work after maternity leave, and one guy has been really condescending: “Let’s talk in terms your mommy brain can understand,” he “jokes.” I’ve said I don’t like it. Should I just let it go?
No, do not let this guy’s words just roll of your back. They are condescending, insensitive and, in many states, illegal. Comments that refer to your pregnancy and motherhood in any kind of derogatory way should not be tolerated. human decency would dictate that he stop immediately. After all, you’ve made it clear that you’re not amused. But if mere civility doesn’t convince him, it’s important that you report his behavior. he must be made aware that he has crossed the line and may be breaking the law, and given a warning. This isn’t about tattling, it’s about education.
