You’re pegged as “the quiet one” at work, but inside you’re bursting with ideas. It might seem hard to excel if you’re not outspoken, but it’s possible.

Wendy Gelberg, author of The Successful Introvert: How to Enhance Your Job Search and Advance Your Career, shares how shy people can shine at work.

Set meeting goals.
Try to look at the agenda for a meeting ahead of time and challenge yourself to contribute at least one idea, comment or suggestion.

Speak when you can.
If that meeting proved just too intimidating, ask to provide one-on-one feedback afterward, when you’ve had time to digest the information.

Talk yourself up
. Don’t confuse bragging with self-promotion. Tell your boss about the positive results you’ve gotten on your various projects.

Write it down. Keep a log of your achievements. When it’s time to ask for that promotion, you’ll be  armed with reasons why you deserve it.
