Working Mother Welcomes Young Journalists

Working Mother Media recently hosted a group of 6th and 7th graders from Brooklyn's Big Apple Academy in our New York headquarters. The students, who put out their own school newspaper, were interested in seeing the inner workings of a magazine publisher. Our Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Owens ran them through the steps it takes to build each issue (and website) and remained on-hand to answer their many questions. Jennifer emphasized that, as a mother-of-two, she is motivated to put out a publication that reflects her life. She added that all fledgling journalists should find a similar passion – if they want to be happy in their jobs.

While the kids seem to get a lot out of their excursion, we may have gotten even more. Nurturing the next generation of working moms (and dads) is something we can really get behind.

What a great bunch of young writers! They peppered me with really great questions. It was truly the highlight of my day to get to show them what we do at Working Mother!
