No More Co-Pay for Birth Control and other Preventative Care

Health care reforms are reaching new heights. New insurance plans are now being required to cover women's preventative care with no added costs. Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services Secretary, made the announcement stating that there will be "historic new guidelines that will help women get the care they need to stay healthy."

What's included in the expanded wellness coverage? Free birth control, annual wellness visits, breastfeeding counseling and equipment, screening for gestational diabetes, domestic abuse, HPV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV.

Starting August 2012, health plans must be able to offer this expanded wellness coverage without a co-pay. Everyone from an expectant working mom to a seasoned working mom will be affected by the new guideline. An electric breast pump that costs hundreds can put a strain on a working mom who needs to choose between a new mom necessity and essentials for her family. Surely, it'll give women the financial freedom to take care of their health needs first.

What does this new agenda mean for you personally?
