Do brains and beauty go hand in hand? Not according to JCPenney, which up until yesterday was selling a shirt targeted to young girls that proclaimed: "I'm too pretty to do homework so my brother has to do it for me."
Thankfully, working moms shopping for back-to-school clothing no longer have to worry about their daughters seeing the offensive shirt. JCPenney is pulling the offensive top from its website—it had not been available for purchase in stores yet—after an outcry from enraged parents.
The company issued the following statement:
“JCPenney is committed to being America's destination for great style and great value for the whole family. We agree that the “Too pretty” t-shirt does not deliver an appropriate message, and we have immediately discontinued its sale. Our merchandise is intended to appeal to a broad customer base, not to offend them. We would like to apologize to our customers and are taking action to ensure that we continue to uphold the integrity of our merchandise that they have come to expect."
What do you think of the shirt? Do you agree with JCPenney’s decision to stop selling it?
