Think twice before stuffing that iPad or cell phone into your kid’s Christmas stocking! According to a recently published scientific report from the Environmental Health Trust (EHT), children’s heads absorb twice as much microwave radiation from cell phones as adults, due to their thinner skull. Adults also have a risk potential, especially those who use their gadgets for long periods of time. Based on controlled studies, microwave radiation from cell phones weaken the brain’s protective barrier and produce fewer and more damaged offspring and sperm.
Dr. Devra Davis, EHT Founder, reveals that safety warnings of wireless devices were designed to protect a less than typical user, and are not in touch with how we use cell phones today. For instance, middle-schoolers sneak them into school and use them secretly inside their shirt pockets (and thus within close proximity of their bodies), and even babies and toddlers are learning to read through apps and fall asleep to music played from phones tucked under pillows. In addition to this, the process used to determine radiation from cell phones is modeled on a 6-foot 2-inch tall, 220-pound man with an 11-pound head, representing only 3% of the population.
“The standard for cell phones has been developed based on old science, old models and old assumptions about how we use cell phones, and that’s why they need to change and protect our children and grandchildren,” says Dr. Davis.
Next time you read the fine print for wireless devices, consider what it’s based on, and how not taking precaution might affect you and your child in the long run. It’s certainly fun to have these cool gadgets, but monitor the amount of time you spend using them. Dr. David couldn’t have put it better: “The best present a parent can give their child is the gift of safety.”
