Posting ads in local papers is no longer the fastest way to reach a broad audience. More and more twenty-first century couples are opting to adopt a child using social networking sites, according to an article on Yahoo! Good Morning America. Facebook fliers and YouTube videos made by couples looking for children are popping up all over the Internet. And since websites like these host hundreds of millions of users daily, couples have a higher chance of finding an adoptive child faster than through traditional means, like going through an agency.
Newlyweds Melissa and Seth Edlavitch were one of these lucky couples. The pair from Washington, D.C., decided to adopt a child after losing their twins at childbirth. They sent out emails about their plan to everyone they knew, but received no response. So Seth posted their flier on Facebook, and in just a short period of time a woman who was planning to place her baby for adoption contacted the couple. They met up the following day to figure out all of the legal procedures, and a month later Melissa and Seth had a son, Noah.
What’s your thought on adoption via Facebook? Is it something you would ever consider?
