Birth Control Recall

If you think your oral contraceptive is safe, think again. Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, one of the largest manufacturers of oral contraceptives, issued a massive recall today of birth control pill packets. The Alabama-based company claims that due to a packaging error, the oral contraceptives dosage may be incorrect. This could leave women with insufficient contraception—and potentially put them at risk for unintended pregnancies.

Effective immediately, the voluntary recall includes the following oral contraceptives:

• Cyclafem™ 7/7/7
• Cyclafem™ 1/35
• Emoquette™
• Gildess® FE 1.5/30
• Gildess® FE 1/20
• Orsythia™
• Previfem ®
• Tri-Previfem®

According to a statement issued by the FDA, the packaging problems should not pose any immediate health risks. Consumers who have questions on this recall or wish to arrange a refund of the affected product are asked to call Qualitest toll free at 1-877-300-6153 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
