Each of us has a set of problems, whether with kids and parenting or work and managing deadlines, MBOs, or quotas. What I've learned is our challenges are all relative. We often believe our experiences are unique and unbearable. We become consumed in our day-to-day world, we introspectively ruminate on our individual perils, to the point we lose our perspective of what is truly important. I've also learned a vehicle to regain perspective is to become a selfless listener. If you are actively listening to others, the friend who is struggling with caring for a disabled parent, or one whose husband has been unemployed for 3 years and learning of its impact on the marriage, or the parent who is struggling with a child experimenting with drugs, . . . your once thought of, "this is the worst day ever," begins to fade. So, let's make a point to reach out to a friend.
