Here we go!!!

Hello Working Mothers!!!

I am sooooo excited that I finally get to write my blog. My background is a married mother of two little ones. I am from California born and raised.

In February of 2011 we decided to move to Texas for a number of reasons. One was how much more reasonable it was to live there versus California. Another reason was they have the best hospitals and much better school systems. So, we packed our things, hopped in the truck and took to the 10 freeway headed east. After 4 days of driving, yes 4 days, we do have 2 kids, we got to Houston. Eureka!!!

So we settle down with family until we get on our feet. Myself and my husband immediately start looking for work and a place to stay and schools for the kids etc. Now my background is in Human Resources, I do not have a degree but I do have experience. I have also worked in law enforcement as a sheriff station clerk. So, its not like I never held down a job before so I was soooooo surprised when I did not receive any call backs or job offers. I went to temp agencies and the worksource center and you name it I was there. I had my resume looked over and changed it multiple times and still did not receive any response. I know I applied to hundreds of jobs and nothing. You can imagine how bad I felt. I uprooted my family and moved to a state that we had never been too. In the midst of all of it, we lost everything we owned in storage becuase we couldn't keep up on the monthly fees, my car was repo'd and we ran out of money. We ended up all over Texas, from Houston to Fort Worth to Sherman back to Fort Worth and eventually back to California. All this happened in one years time. So here we are back in California with nothing and having to start over. The funny thing about this whole journey, yes I said funny, is that I want to go back to Texas. Even though we didn't find work, we met the nicest people ever!! Everyone did their best to help us adn that is something I have never come across in California. So, this time I am starting to look for work beforehand and I am going back to school to get my bachelors degree in HR Management. I am hoping that this time around I get some response!!!!

Welcome and good luck with your writing! I love reading about life for working moms in different parts of the country. I posed the question in one of my posts about "who is your state's heroine?" I would be interested to know if your state has a heroine and if you can relate to her. My state's heroine was the first principal of a school for black girls. I can relate to her b/c I'm also an educator.
