It’s Been a Fun Ride, but Here is Where I Get Off

The countdown is ticking away and I will be officially saying farewell to my twenties within the next 24 hours.  My 30th birthday is Thursday, February 9.  I’ve been taking these last few days leading up to this new milestone remembering and reflecting on all the things that have transpired throughout my twenties – the good, the bad, and the ugly; and rejoicing about all of the lessons learned, the progress through struggle, and fun times I’ve had along the way.  In a span of my twenties I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Marketing; was laid off twice; purchased my first home; attended graduate school and earned my master’s degree in business; got pregnant, got married, had a baby, and most recently filed for divorce.  I’ve gained some friends, lost even more, and forged a tighter bond with others.  During all of the “peaks” and “valleys” there’s been fun, joy, love, forgiveness, growth, fear, and acceptance.

I believe that everything that I’ve been through in my twenties will help shape and prepare me for my thirties.  As much of my early twenties was about partying, shopping, traveling, and life with no limits; I am now at a place where I’m looking to the future for me and my daughter and will start my thirties solidifying our foundation - spiritually, emotionally, and financially.  It’s a new season!  And I’m welcoming it with open arms and an open and healed heart.  So farewell twenties!  It’s been a fun ride, but here is where I get off.  No need to worry, I promise the journey will continue!

Hi Kelly! I'm also a single mommy, and I lived in MD for 13 years before recently relocating back home to the Virgin Islands. I felt the same way towards turning 30 (I'm 31 now). Great post :)
