I’m writing this as I drink a cup of coffee in a renewable, compostable cup, and the label reads, “You’re making a difference!”

It’s funny how a cup can provide such encouragement. I have been wondering during the month of April whether I have made a significant dent in preserving our earth as my family and I pledged to join Scott’s Brand Four-Week Test Drive to use hybrid paper products. When I set a goal, I like to not only achieve it but go above and beyond and surpass my goal two-fold.

During this month, I have used only hybrid paper products in my home, have reduced the amount of paper I use by at least one half (this is empirical data gathered by my husband who was surprised that he didn’t have to buy any additional paper products during the month of April), and have consciously thought about our daily impact on the environment.

Some would say that’s mission accomplished! But I’m not satisfied with that. I want to do more, and so does my family. This week, my five-year-old daughter Lexi observed someone throwing trash outside of the car while they were driving, and that really upset her. It’s not just what kind and how much paper we use. It’s about how we take care of our earth and the pride we take in preserving it and maintaining its beauty.
