My daughter doesn't care much about what she wears yet, but I'm so thankful that she is a girl. With most, but not all of one of my Christmas gift cards, I purchased a Jessica Simpson, dark brown, size extra small, motor cycle jacket last night for 75% off the original retail price. I'm still beaming as I write this. I still continue to wear a black leather jacket in a similar style to last night's find which I remember I purchased at The Holyoke Mall in 2002 for twenty five dollars, which was 90% off the original $250 price tag. Fashion is certainly something that continues to make me very happy as a working mom. Consignment stores have helped me add to my work wardrobe over the years. I cannot afford to buy Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor and Anne Klein suit skirts at retail prices, but over the years I have found many pristine skirts in my size for less than ten dollars. One word of caution when buying things on clearance, "final sale". For example, you can return online purchases at the Levi's store, but not clearance items. I ordered four pairs of jeans online, but I could only exchange one of the three pairs that did not fit. One pair fit me well, but two had to be given to the middle school parent helper who assists me with my baby daughter. Luckily, I wear the same size clothing as most middle schoolers, so I usually have someone to use my extra clothes since I have always taught grades 5-10. When I'm not at work, I usually wear jeans. The Levi's store has a new line of jeans, or perhaps just a line that is new to me. I have what used to be called a "pear" shape, but is now more euphemistically referred to as a "dewdrop". Anyway, Levi's curve I.D. line allows me to wear jeans without a belt. They make jeans with four levels of curve. I am the third level of curve, "Bold". Just make sure that you try on the clearance jeans before you buy them, because they cannot be returned. Levis has lots of jeans on sale for less than 30 dollars this time of year. I'm not sure if my daughter cares about fashion yet, but she does give everyone a big smile when they tell her that they like her boots, dress, vest or whatever adorable item she happens to be wearing.

It's always fun to do
I know that my daughter will
I know that my daughter will be spoiled by me and her grandmothers. I will always teach her to be kind and to love others for who they are. I hate it that some of my students feel insecure because they don't wear Uggs, Juicy and other designer clothes.
Be careful what you wish
Be careful what you wish for.....I have two boys and one girl, and I have always taken my daughter with me for manicures, shopping trips etc. It is great fun and something we enjoy together. Now that she's a 'tween, she definately has her own opinions. "Are you sure you want to wear that?" and "Are you gonna wear black, again Mom ?" make me question myself at every turn these days. And watch out for those labels ! Ugg, Juicy, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, she likes them all. I've created an expensive mini me ! Enjoy your daughter's fashion forays while you still have control over them :).
