Summer Strategies

Being a working mom is always a challenge, but working from home during summer vacation pushes the boundaries of absurdity at my home.  I don't have regular child care.  The school day is my work day, along with any early morning, evening and weekend hours I can wiggle in.  So when there is no school, and there is still work, it takes some creative juggling to make it all happen and keep everyone happy.

I have to give my children credit.  They have been pretty good about leaving me in my office to work relatively undisrupted if I close the door.  That doesn't mean I don't get the occassional fact pressed up against the glass panes or note plopped next to the computer, but I can live with that.  They respect when I have a seminar or meeting and do their best to steer clear until they hear me shout "I'm finished".

As for me, I'm doing my best to be productive, efficient and still have some fun with my kids this summer.  My inclination is to hole up in my office and work whenever I can.  But I have found that getting up with my early riser husband and concentrating for a couple of hours before the kids get up is a great way to make some free time for fun activities with the kids.  And a bike ride to a favorite lunch spot midday provides a good break for me and a fun outing for the kids.

We are finding our way this summer, trying to keep everyone happy, doing what needs to be done and having some fun along the way.  Not too bad !

I, too, find the early

I, too, find the early morning hours the most productive intertwined with a couple of late evenings...every day brings its challenges and we offset them with a day or two of fun, summer type activity.

When I worked from home, it

When I worked from home, it was quite the same. I would drop the older ones at early swim team and then do breakfast. I would try to be "off" a couple full days and have a college student keeps the girls busy 2 other days. But every summer was different. Good for you to find some summer pleasures with your children!
