Taking vacation while you are on vacation can be a challenge. If you are anything like me, many vacation days are spent working from a different location, while your kids and husband actually vacation. Sometimes this is really necessary, but other times it is habit or obligation that keeps me at my computer. How about you?
This Thanksgiving, I was determined to really vacation on my vacation. My entire family spent Thanksgiving in Florida: my parents, all seven grandchildren, my sister and I and our spouses. I really wanted to enjoy it. I am proud and delighted to report that I did just that! I spent almost no time on my laptop. I returned very few emails, primarily on my blackberry. I did spend some time on my I Pad, but mostly reading, handling photographs and yes, doing a little Black Friday shopping.
I drank wine with dinner every night. I let my mom cook, which she was happy to do. I spent a day shopping with my nieces and daughter, wandering leisurely around a beautiful, open air shopping mall. I am almost certain I didn't say "hurry up" or "we have to go" once.
This was the best vacation I can remember in a long time. While disconnecting all together seems impossible, letting go as much as possible is something you should try. I highly recommend a couple of glasses of wine. Letting go of your laptop and enjoying your family will be alot easier. I suspect you will be a lot happier, too.
