Family Football

Several weeks ago my husband grudgingly agreed to coach my nine year old's school flag football team. After several practices, the Packers had their first game last Saturday. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting the scene of familial cooperation the game turned out to be. Picture the following : Dad as coach. Nine year old player. High school junior player cousin as assistant coach. Eighth grade brother as timer for substituting players. Grandpa (my dad) helping sub players in and out. Papa (my husband's dad) helping Grandpa sub players in and out. Grandma (my mom) holding the dog. Mimi (my husband's mom) helping Grandma hold the dog. Eleven year old sister helping Grandma and Mimi hold the dog and do whatever else needed to be done. Mom (me)prepping cider and doughnuts for the post game snack. Watching the boys play their first game was great. The fact that my little guy scored the first touch down was even greater. Winning the game 24-13 was pretty great, too ! But watching three generations working together to help the littlest member of the family's team succeed was simply the best !
