“As I was saying before I was interrupted…” — Jack Paar, 1960
Well, that took longer than expected. I was all set to get back to blogging about my personal health (weight loss) adventures, when first our annual vacation hit in June.
That was fine, I could handle it. In fact, I maintained despite the changes in routine through July. The kids were in a variety of camps this summer, which played havoc with our daily routines. But still, all was well. I was still working from home on Fridays and hitting the gym; I was eating right; I was paying attention.
And then the October issue hit. If you know anything about publishing, you won’t be surprised to learn that we work on our issues about three to four months before they print. And for Working Mother, the big Kahuna is the October issue, which is home to the Working Mother 100 Best Companies.
I’ve worked on this issue for six years now and now matter what, it’s a crusher. (Yes, I know there’s an irony in working so hard to create the ultimate promotion of work life satisfaction, but hey—I’m satisfied that it’s worth it!) This summer was no different. In fact, this might have been the hardest one with all of the other “life” things that were happening my home life and my team’s. All good stuff, but talk about a juggle!
All of which is to say that my grip on the healthy bar completely slipped off in August while I focused on work and kids. There really wasn’t any time for anything else.
But while work is still busy (as always!), life is already getting back to normal. The issue has shipped, the kids go back to school next week — finally! — and I’m putting my ducks in a row to work on losing the few pounds I gained back (always honest) and even more. I really want to finish this year out strong.
So join me – and help me! Tweet me some inspiration @working_mother and I’ll appreciate the help!
