The Butterfly Effect

For many of us, Labor Day weekend signifies the unofficial end to summer and the start of a new school year for our children, whether that be preschool, college or anything in between.  In other words, let the chaos begin.

“Chaos theory attempts to explain the fact that complex and unpredictable results can and will occur in systems that are sensitive to their initial conditions. A common example of this is known as the Butterfly Effect. It states that, in theory, the flutter of a butterfly's wings in China could, in fact, actually effect weather patterns in New York City, thousands of miles away. In other words, it is possible that a very small occurence can produce unpredictable and sometimes drastic results by triggering a series of increasingly significant events.”

Can it be true, then, that the smallest occurrences in life can trigger such vast results?   I think it is definitely true and as we start our busy school year with a multitude of activities, athletics, piano lessons, and how we, as parents, juggle that very precious and beautiful symphony, here are a few simple things we can do to create the Butterfly Effect:

Come into my bedroom at night, tuck me in and sing me a soon. Also, tell me stories about when you were little.

Give me hugs and kisses and sit and talk with me privately.

Spend quality time with just me..not with my brothers and sisters around.

Give me nutritious food so I can grow healthy.

Talk to me about we we can do together on the weekend.

At night, talk to me about anything; love, school, family, etc.

Let me play outside.. a lot!

Cuddle under a blanket and watch our favorite TV show together.

Discipline me..That way, I know you care.

Leave me a note in my backpack or lunchbox.
