A recent search for cloth diapers revealed certified preowned diapers. Gross. For me this is like buying your underwear at Goodwill. It should only be done if you are really in dire straits and cannot afford any alternatives.
Diaper swaps are not new and are actually a very common way for parents to purchase cloth diapers, especially if they haven't yet decided if they will be sticking with the cloth diaper regime and don't want to invest heavily up front. It can be an easy way to test the cloth diapering way of life without feeling like you are tied to it if you don't like it. Many online communities have boards dedicated to people buying and selling their used diapers
The certified preowned diapers are disturbing to me for a few reasons.
One, please stop calling everything 'certified preowned'. Let's call a duck a duck and admit that these are used diapers.
Two, you have no idea who the previous user was. If you receive cloth diapers from a friend then you at least have some idea of the cleanliness of their general lifestyle and can feel more comfortable sharing such a personal item. I know, I know, all babies involved are pooping in the diapers so it really should not matter who is doing the dirty business, but for some reason it just does.
Has anyone had a great experience with diaper swaps? Would you buy certified preowned diapers?
