I am so proud that once again Lindquist & Vennum has earned a place on the 2013 Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers “Best Law Firms for Women” list. Last week at our firm’s Women’s Initiative luncheon, one of my partners was recognized for being one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Minnesota. I received recognition for my 40th (!) anniversary of practice. As I looked around the room, I realized that many of the women in attendance weren’t even born when I entered the profession. It was gratifying to see first-hand the great strides that have been made in the profession to permit women attorneys the choices of having a fulfilling career as an attorney and a mother, and to receive recognition for their achievements. When I glanced at my inbox this morning I saw a reminder to RSVP for the annual firm-wide family picnic complete with playground, wading pool and live music for our staff and attorneys. This was yet another reminder to me of how “family friendly” the firm has become over the years. In addition to these events that include our extended families, we have taken in stride requests for parenting leaves for both men and women, work from home options, and messages that say “Can I call you back after my kid’s soccer game?” or “I will review the document after I put the baby to bed.” This is the new workforce which we embrace – sometimes with a little trepidation from some of the more “traditional” attorneys- but which make Lindquist & Vennum a great place to work for working mothers (and dads!).
