Hello Moms! My name is Tirralan Watkins. I’m a working mother of two young boys; I’m married to a very caring husband, and I’m passionate about sharing my nurturing gifts through words. I’m a little anxious, a little reserved, but equally elated, to embark upon this journey with all of you. So, without further delay, here goes…
Like most working moms, my life is BUSY. But, even in the busyness I make it a point to take time for myself. When, you might ask? For me, it’s when my husband is well fed; the kids are sound asleep; and I’ve got an hour left until bedtime. During that time I don’t do the laundry, don’t wash the dishes, and more importantly I don’t stress over the events of the day. I spend one hour enjoying “me time.” I’ll either work on my writing; or just relax with a glass of Pinot Grigio, channel surfing; or maybe I’ll hang out with my hubby. I do whatever I want to do, and, you best believe it’s not watching Sports Center or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
I encourage all moms out there to find that “me time” for you. Maybe it’s an hour before the household wakes up, or, like me, before bedtime. Or, perhaps it’s a half hour when the kids are napping. Wherever you can find that time, make it yours. Own it!
And, while you’re enjoying those moments, it’s okay to have some fun. I live in Southern California, the entertainment Mecca of the world. So, I can offer a plethora of cool ideas on what to do with that quality time you’ve found with yourself.
For starters, you can find a TV show, whether old or new and use your “me time” for laughs. Laughter, after all, is good like medicine, so get ready to heal with some much needed humor. To begin, I give you my top 5 sitcoms from the last decade: Friends, Frasier, The King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond and The Office. Hey, if the First Lady can squeeze in “me time” for herself, with her jam-packed international schedule, I think us regular moms deserve a bit of pre-planned time to ourselves.
So, moms join me in a little self-focused “me time” revolution. Taking care of yourself can make you much more prepared to take care of everyone else. And, considering the everyday onslaught of a mom’s busy life that can only be a good thing.
