Hump Day Health Tip: LOL!

There’s something about laughter that does a body good, after all, it is good like medicine.  Laughter is a visual expression of a number positive emotional states like joy, happiness, and relief, so how could it not have some medicinal advantages to it?

Laughter offers many amazing health benefits.  It acts as a de-stressor, actually decreasing stress hormones in our body; it’s been known to lower blood pressure; It can boost your memory, and the best part of all, it makes you feel good.  So, having said all of that, laughter is something that we should take part in daily, even if we have to make concentrated times to get it in.

Hare are 3 tips on how to get in your daily dose of laughter.

Laugh with Your Kids – It can be so easy to get into a laughing match with your kids.  Have them put on their best silly face, and you do the same then watch the laughter spread.  Or, you can’t go wrong with a tickling contest.  Laugher is known to be contagious so I can assure you that if you see your little ones laughing over next to nothing, then you’ll be joining right in with the fun.

Laugh with Your Friends – Find a moment during your hectic day and laugh over something, no matter how silly or seemingly insignificant.  You might have to travel down memory lane with your friend or spouse for this one, but it’s worth it.  Try starting the conversation with, “Remember that time…?” I’m sure there are so many funny recollections that you can pull from your memory bank.  And, dig deep, it’ll be well worth it.

Find Something on TV that Makes You Laugh – Maybe it’s a favorite sitcom, or funny movie, or a stand-up comedy DVD.  When I watch certain scenes from the movie, “Bridesmaids”, I can’t stop laughing, or if I find a nostalgic TV show from the 70’s or 80’s I’m roaring throughout the night.  There are plenty of options for getting the laugh tracks going, so find one that tickles your funny bone.

Sometimes, when it comes to good health it’s the not so obvious decisions that are the best for us.  Laughter may not be what initially comes to mind when you think of being healthy, but it should.  And, while it isn’t a substitute for proper eating and regular exercise, laughter does have the power to heal many things that ail us.  So, crack a smile, get those giggle boxes ready, and take some time to laugh out loud for the health of it.

If anyone else has any laughter tips to share please feel free to leave a reply in the comment section below.
