Happy Friday, Moms! Hopefully, you’ve been getting in some much needed “me time,” in the midst of being Super Mom. And, one of the best ways to ensure that you remain on top of your game is to spend quality time with that someone special in you life. So, what better way to do that than by sharing a date night?
My husband and I are due for a much needed date night. It’s been several weeks since our last outing so I decided we’d do something a little different this time. Instead of the usual dinner and movie, which usually ends up costing us over $150, when we throw in a babysitter, we’ve decided to scale back. Like a lot of families we’re on a budget and spending that much cash on one night just isn’t feasible.
Fortunately, with a little creative thinking I discovered that date night can actually be a cheap night! And, I even figured out how to find a free babysitter. So, for my upcoming date I’ve decided to plan something a little out of the box. I figure, we’re creative people. He’s a Hollywood writer, after all. So, when thinking about our cheap date and knowing that I wanted to do something romantic, it hit me – I’ll take him to a drive-in.
Yes, the same theaters Richie Cunningham and The Fonz made so popular on Happy Days. Drive-Ins were at the height of popularity in the 50’s and 60’s, but sadly, over the years we’ve seen the once romantic venues all but disappear. Today, only about 1.5% of movie screens are drive-ins. Talk about nostalgia! Fortunately, in doing my research I’ve found that there are a handful of these theaters still around.
If you do your homework, like I did, you’re sure to find one, or two in your area. You might have to travel to get there, but you can make the scenic drive, and the wonderful conversation, a part your date. And, get this, the drive-in movies are only going for $5-$10 per person. Try getting that kind of deal at your local walk-in theater. You can bring your own popcorn, drinks and snacks, without having to spend anything extra.
So, yes, you can actually have an entire date and a ton of fun for around $20. Imagine that. My husband’s going to love this idea. And, if he plays his cards right he just might get a quick make-out session before the end credits.
