Animal Lovers and Aspiring Young Authors

Posted on July 26, 2012

You know I am always trying to provide ways for your children to get involved in making the world a better place.  I have a new way that will also give them a chance to showcase their talent.

Young aspiring authors and animal lovers, the HEART Animal Rescue Anthology is your chance to get published and also help animals in need.  There are no fees to enter the written portion of the contest.

Put together by Ember Press, the anthology will benefit HEART Animal Rescue, which is a foster based 501c3 animal rescue and is located in the Florida Panhandle.  As you might expect, the theme of the book is animal rescue.

You can submit short stories in the categories of Youth (15 & under), Young Adult (16 to 18) and adult.  All poetry will be judged together.

Short story submissions are limited to 2,000 words or less while poetry should be limited to one page. You can send all submissions to dandilyonfluff@gmail.com by August 15th with “HEART Submission” and your category in the subject line. An example would be “HEART Submission: Short Story Youth.”

You can also submit photos for the HEART Animal Rescue Anthology Top Dog Photo Contest. Robin Wiesneth, the artist behind the wonderfully whimsical A Brush With Humor will be selecting five lucky dogs to immortalize as illustrations in the anthology. The Top Dog of the bunch will grace the cover of the anthology.  There is a five dollar fee to enter the photo contest.

All of the entry fees as well as the sale of the original paintings will go to support dogs in need thru H.E.A.R.T. Owners of the winning photos will have the first option to purchase the original art for $100-125, otherwise ownership of the paintings will go to H.E.A.R.T to be sold at a silent auction. The money raised will be used to keep dogs with their families, help stop pet overpopulation and provide food and medical care for needy animals.

You can get more details about the contest and where to mail your photo entries at this site. Winning entries will be informed via email. H.E.A.R.T
