What to do with a day off

Posted on April 12, 2012

I have two days off from work and I’m wondering what the heck to do with myself.  I’d like to do something other than clean the house.

It’s really a tragic thing when your brain becomes so deeply entrenched in your work routine that it often becomes difficult to step outside and actually do something fun without feeling compelled to scan the iphone for email messages.

My desire to be something other than a workhorse for the company that employs me is compelling.  Perhaps this is what drove me to become a blogger.  My love to write coupled with my desire to do something other than the 9-5 allows for desperately needed ‘me’ time.

On Monday thru Friday you can generally find me in my nice work attire, unless I have chosen to work from home which on occasion I will do.  The second I get home I eagerly look forward to tearing my work clothes from my body as fast as humanly possible.  Pass me my sweats and T please!!!!  There are days when there is not even one second to change and it’s amazing how people look at you strangely when you show up on the soccer fields in heels and a suit.

Most usually inquire with “why are you so dressed up?”   Um.  really?   Yeah, okay – I have nothing better to do than sit here on the soccer fields in a highly uncomfortable suit and heels that are squishing my toes.  Come on people. Must you ask?

It’s typically then that I snear at those SAHM’s of the world.  I wonder if they can hear me growling?

I tried to be a SAHM once after my third daughter was born.  Granted, there were other things going on that led to this decision.  It took a while to get used to having no routine and then I quickly decided I must create one even if that routine did not include conference calls and meetings.   This lasted a very short 1.5 years.  I was quickly back to work.

I wonder what a part time job might feel like?   To work from 10-1 or something along those lines sounds absolutely glorious!  There would be NO CHANCE to fall behind in laundry!!  Yeah, right.   If you think I believe that I may tell you another lie.   Those that do work part time will quickly tell you that their days go by so fast -they too fall behind in those mundane housechores.   Despite my believing this to be true, I still wonder what you do all day long

Yet despite all the BS complaints made from working moms about how busy we are – some of us don’t have to work we choose to work.

Whatever your situation, hopefully you are unlike me and actually know what to do with a day off.

Allow me to conclude to say what I believe to be very true. We can comment all we want about others.   The grass is not always greener on the other side.

I would love to stop by. But, I think it might have to wait until this summer. I did not know that Serlkay had ever expanded its size. I must say that a succesful family owned business in this day and age is a very refreshing sight! As well as this is a very refreshing site! best mattress for a bad back

"Why are you so dressed up?" is not the worst thing that a SAHM can say to you.  How about the ones who say "you'll never get this time back with you daughter," or "I wouldn't want somebody else raising my daughter." As for your shoes, I would suggest checking out some of the new cuter Crocs that you can actually wear with a dress or suit.

I feel your confinement,

I feel your confinement, pumps and a suit -your armor. Here is an idea for a day off - you may not like it at first but will be addicted if given an opportunity. Put on the sweats, call a friend and walk for five miles maybe more depending on your physical strength. Then go for lunch maybe even followed by an inexpensive pedicure. Your body will feel great, having time with a friend is pure therapy and a relaxed lunch is your treat.
